Hi all,
I don't kinow if I'm qualified to start a topic like this, since I don't work, and aren't part of the work force, but there was always one job on tv that's made to sound simple, bur there is I'm sure probably more to it than there actually is. I'm talking the job of court bailiff. When I was a kid, every time I watched any tv show or soap that took place in a court room, they always have a bialiff, who announces when court is in session and swears in the witnesses. Every time I heard a bailiff say, all rise, the honorable judge smith presiding, I think cool, that's the kind of job I'd be good at, I want that job. Then he'd swear in a witness on th estand and he'd say, do yoou solemnly swear to tell the whole truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you god? I thought man, he's got it made, all he has to do is say that thing when the judge comes in and make that little speech to witnesses. Of course, being older and a little bit, ahem, wiser, I know now there is more to it than those 2 speeches. How many of you have the impression a particular job is wonderful, or easy, based on what is shown on tv?

I don't think any job is as easy as it looks. You got a lot of responsibility on the job, accomodations that need to be made in order to do the job especially for the disabled, etc.
Troy
good point troy, I think all jobs are probably hard, but some harder than others. I think working for or with some people can be very stressful indeed, not to mention jobs are are distressfuleven without bosses and sometimes other employees.

One job that is definitely not as easy as you might think is book binding. I had to do a lot of that this summer while I was looking at my local library for the blind. It's really hard keeping all those pages in place and getting them all bound up in order, especially if you've never done it before, you're using a square bindr, and the pages are thermoform. I also did a lot of proofreading while there, another job that is harder than it looks, especially if you also have to do some formatting as well. Both jobs are also very monotonous, and after about a week I knew I didn't want to make proofreading a career. I can't sit still for that long, even if I have a decent book to read.
A job that seams easy is the people on the television who tell the weather after the news. It seams very easy and they only appear for a few minutes but i am sure they would need some preparation before appearing on the television telling the weather. They need to know how to read maps. They can't say for example that north is going to be raining and point the east lol.
Hi krisme and Nikos,
I think jobs that seem easy are usually the ones where people are on for a few minutes, or even a few hours if all they have to do is talk. QVc, the cable shopping channel for instance, demonstratring some of the products, especiallymusical keyboards and toys sounds like it would be easy and a lot of fun, but one of the hosts commented there is a lot of production work going on behind the sceens before the show airs, so I would imagine no job is ever as simple as it might seem on the surface.
